CropLife Philippines Hosts Informative Webinar on Fall Armyworm Management

CropLife Philippines successfully held a webinar titled "Fall Armyworm: Status & Management Strategies" on October 22, 2020, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The event was livestreamed on Facebook, with viewers participating via Facebook and Zoom, and technical support provided by the FPS Media PH team.


The webinar aimed to update participants on the status of Fall Armyworm (FAW) infestation in the Philippines, enhance understanding of the National FAW Action Plan and management strategies, and share the industry’s perspective on FAW insecticide resistance management.


Veronica T. Tiburcio of CropLife Philippines opened the event with her welcome remarks. The first speaker, Dr. Lorenzo M. Caranguian, provided a comprehensive overview of the FAW situation in the Philippines and detailed the National Action Plan. This was followed by a presentation on control and management strategies by Ms. Wilma Cuaterno, Chief of the Crop Protection Division at the Bureau of Plant Industry.


The webinar featured an interactive question and answer session, facilitated by Ruby Eduarte of Syngenta Philippines, Leo Valdez of C.B. Andrew Asia Inc., and Dave Cristobal of Bayer CropScience. They fielded questions from Zoom participants and Facebook livestream viewers, ensuring a thorough discussion on the topics covered.


John Fajardo, Agronomic System Manager for Corn - SEAP at Bayer CropScience, then discussed FAW and insecticide resistance management, providing insights into effective resistance management strategies.


Mr. Ed De Luna concluded the webinar with a wrap-up session and outlined the way forward, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in managing FAW infestations effectively.
